Camp Prendergast offers a scenic location near Chataqua Institute and Panama Rocks Park, appreciated by many for its family-friendly atmosphere and well-maintained facilities. However, recent reviews highlight issues with site access, cleanliness concerns, and a lack of empathy from staff regarding essential services and unexpected problems.
We had booked two days here July 4th week. It appeared at first to be a decent place close to a river. I had a hard time backing into the site (I'm not an expert backer) as it had a row of shrubs one one side and a large camper and vehicle on the other side of a narrow road. When I mentioned this to the woman who showed us our site, the response wasn't “I'm sorry, let me put you in the vacant pull-through site with power, water, and shade that is right around the corner from you”. It was, and I paraphrase, “Well, other people can do it”. So no empathy there. Then my girlfriend got back from the women's showers and told me about the wolf spiders in two of the three stalls and what appeared to be a dead mouse in the last one. We were preoccupied by the below issue and did not have a chance to let them know. And since the site had no shade, we had to run the travel trailer AC at max. Well, it died. In all fairness, it may have been ready to die anyway, but the heat load on the camper didn't help. They did have ice and firewood for sale and the price was $10 for a large amount of wood which was nice, so we purchased some (but not able to use much of it – so they got most of it back). They did not have a camp store and the pool was not open due to some construction. So sadly, with no AC, we had to leave. On the way out, I stopped in to ask for a refund on the day we were not able to use due to no fault of our own. The woman got defensive so I explained that their sites were not full so they were not losing money. She proceeded to get more agitated and tried making excuses, so in order to not escalate it further, I just said, “We are good”, and left. I heard her cursing inside the the building. Class act. And no empathy for our AC plight. Had they been empathetic, I could have given them a better review and we would have returned to give them business in the future. Shortsighted for them to do the money grab now and sacrifice all future business. Not a good business model, in my opinion but I'm sure they don't care. Best of luck to them.
Very nice people and a very nice campground. We were here in a tent and were treated like we were in a million dollar Motor home ,cannot say enough good things about this place. Thank you.
My wife and I were in town two weekends in a row to see the Laufay and Brandy Clark concerts. It was an easy, 3 mile bike ride between the campground and the Chataqua Ampitheater which allowed us to save money and a headache parking there (you can get into the grounds for free after 4pm w your concert ticket). Michelle was a lovely host, and we were able to store our camper across the road for a minimal price so we didn't have to pull it back and forth from home. We will be back!
Camp Prendergast is the best! My family and I stayed here for a month and wish we could’ve stayed longer. Beautiful campground, super friendly tight-knit community. Fantastic for children, feels very safe, spots are roomy. Lovely pool, fun little creek runs along the back side- perfect for little ones. Nice playground, very family oriented, and all the facilities are well-maintained. You can tell the owners genuinely care about their guests and property (awesome folks). The speed limit is strictly enforced- which I LOVE because I have 4 small children. Honestly, I was hesitant to leave this review because I feel like it’s such a perfect little slice of paradise and I don’t want the wrong people coming and ruining it LOL. We will definitely be back!!
We had a cabin for two nights and enjoyed every minute! The cabin itself was clean, affordable and had a fridge and microwave. The community bathroom/showers were also very clean and the camp owners and summer residents were friendly and respectful of our privacy. We did not use the pool, but it appeared to be well kept, as did the overall campground. A very short drive to Chataqua Institute and Panama Rocks Park. We would definitely stay here again!
